Just because I'm going to be shut away from the world in a dark room for 14 hours doesn't mean anybody's stopping me from waking up early and walking around the faubourg
before I have to drive to work.
Gerald here is the first person who ever actually accosted me about taking his picture. He'd never seen his own image in an 'instant camera' as he called it. He also offered his name, which no one has done so far.
I found him methodically and skillfully going through the 'recycling' bins put out on trash night the evening before.
"A society that throws away enough good stuff that other people can use will throw away people who still have some good in them too". Turns out he dropped out of Navy Basic Training with a brain-injury-induced coma and a Section 8 just like someone in my family. It happens.
We didn't have time for a righteous sea story, so I just let him see what he looked like in digital, per his request, and told him some of my easier Freegan recipes.
"Someday, I'm going to come over for supper. Get rid of them cats first".
